The Baby Connection

Aloha friends, it is Mindful Monday and I am inspired by a blog my daughter wrote yesterday after attending a Catholic-Jewish blessing ceremony for a new baby in the family. She came away feeling the “one-ness” that connects us all together. This new family was blessed to find a priest who beautifully started out the ceremony with the Jewish Shema. Wow. This new little baby girl was surrounded by love and my daughter felt in the end, that is all that matters. Coinciding with the celebration of the anniversary of the Beatles arrival, I can’t help but quote John Lennon, ” Imagine all the people living life in peace, I hope someday you’ll join us, and the world will be as one.” What or Who will you join in peace with today? Make the connection, we are all one. Aloha.

The Aloha Connection

Aloha! Aloha Friday originated in Hawaii where anyone in any job or profession could wear an Aloha shirt to work. This is a way to be mindful of a more relaxed way to end the workweek while easily transitioning into the weekend ahead. As more of us moved to the “mainland” or elsewhere in the world, we have taken Aloha Friday with us.  Many of us have incorporated Aloha wear on Fridays in offices, clinics, hospitals and other workplaces to remind us of our connectedness to our beloved islands. We invite our non-Hawaiian colleagues to relax and breathe in a little aloha spirit, to celebrate the end of the week and to usher in a “good weekend”.
The Aloha Friday blog is about bringing the Aloha spirit to you and to encourage you to be mindful of your own connections you might have to old familiar places, friends and family. It will invite you to don your aloha shirt and celebrate where you have been, what is moving your spirit now, and reminding you to take a moment to connect with something or someone that brings you to joy.  Call or write an old friend reminding them of a certain memory you both shared that will make you both smile.  Call a new friend and get together for dinner to make some new memories.  Be in nature and connect to the earth in sun, rain or snow.  Meditate and connect with yourself and check in to see if you are creating a moment of peace that you can revisit in times of stress.  The Aloha Spirit that fills us all with gratitude and love is about connection and giving, kindness and compassion. It allows us , whether we live in Hawaii or not, to Live Aloha. Make it a great Friday. Get out your Aloha shirt and wear it with pride and if some people look at you like you are crazy, remind them it’s Aloha Friday. Oh and, Be Aloha.
